Transportation

Malaysia has two main international airports:  Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2 (http://www.klia.com.my/). Putrajaya is located  in between these airports and Kuala Lumpur City.

Depending on which airline you choose, upon arrival at either KLIA or KLIA2, the following are the transportation options:

To the conference venue (UPM) or hotels within its vicinity

  • KLIA Transit– Alight this train to the Putrajaya Sentral station. Please DO NOT alight KLIA Express as it does not stop at Putrajaya Sentral. (http://www.klia2.info/rail/klia-transit/)
  • Airport Limos/Taxis– It is advisable to purchase coupons from counters from both airports to your selected designation.
  • Grab Taxi-Hailing App– Available from both airports and upon reaching Putrajaya Sentral to go to your hotel or straight to the venue. There is NO UBER App in Malaysia!
  • Beware of taxi touts offering any form of transportation upon your arrival!

To Kuala Lumpur

  • KLIA Express– Alight this train from KLIA/KLIA2 to KL Sentral station.  (https://www.kliaekspres.com/). Then continue to your selected destination (hotels etc.) via the MRT/LRT (Mass Rapid Transit/Light Rapid Transit – http://www.kuala-lumpur.ws/transportation/light-rail-transit.htm) or metered taxis.
  • Airport Limos– It is advisable to purchase coupons from counters from both airports to use the airport limos. Be advised that this is a normal taxi service.
  • Airport Coach–  Services at KLIA bus station begins at 6:00 am and the last bus is at 12:30 am. (http://www.klia2.info/buses/bus-operators/airport-coach/)

Within the Kuala Lumpur City

  • MRT/LRT(Mass Rapid Transit/Light Rapid Transit) is fast and convenient within the city limits (https://www.myrapid.com.my/traveling-with-us)
  • Metered taxis– The standard taxi rate for a budget taxi is RM3.00 for the first 1km or first 3 minutes. For each consequent 115 metres or consequent 21 seconds an additional RM0.10 is charged (50% surcharge from 12a.m – 6 a.m).
  • KTM Commuter and Intercity– Commuter train service and Intercity Train to destinations to other far away cities are available from KL Sentral and connecting stations.  (https://www.ktmb.com.my/)

Grab Taxi-Hailing App

It is the most convenient and cost-effective point-to-point transportation to move around during your stay – from hotel to venue, train station, shopping malls, and other point of interests and back. There is NO UBER App in Malaysia!
